Guaranteed Protection of the End-Users
The publishers of SSL Certificates offer users a guarantee to protect against unfairly issued SSL Certificates. The guaranteed amount is the maximum amount which is paid to end users if they suffer from proven wrong issued certificates.
The exact terms and conditions of the guarantee can vary by supplier. The guarantee applies only to licenses that are not on the CRL (Certificate Revocation List), a list of publishers with revoked licenses. The current browsers check the certificates on the CRL's automatic by default.
Company Info
Certificates with a validation procedure where company details are checked are these details also included in the certificate. Using these business details visitors to a website can easily verify the owner. Customers can assume the identity of the owner is correct, since this has been checked with the issuer of the certificate.
Customers do take a risk when a website is using a certificate without the company details due to the owner can be another one they might expect it to be. This might happen if a domain is used who is very similar to the domain of another site. If the company details in a certificate are missing are clients unable to determine the owner of a website which me decrease the confidence in a website.
